After the grand success of Hortiindia 2012, Institute of Horticulture Technology organized a Horti-based mega event – Hortiindia 2013 on 16th-17thFebruary, 2013 on the theme “Innovative Production Systems in Horticulture” at Technology Park, Greater Noida. The event was organized by the Organizing Committee of the Institute of Horticulture Technology under the guidance of Padmashree Dr. K L Chadha, renowned horticulture scientist and Chairman of the institute.
Hortiindia 2013 was supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Processing, Govt. of India; Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers, Govt. of India; Ministry of Statistical & Programme Implementation, Govt. of India; Ministry of Urban Development and Akhil Bhartiya Gramin Vikas Sanstha, Greater Noida.
Several international experts from the USA, Thailand, the Netherlands, Japan and Israel shared their field experiences in horticulture with farmers and other visitors through interactive lectures and workshops. There was a provision of a Hindi translator for providing maximum benefit to the farmers and other professionals. Hortiindia forms a common platform for farmers, horticulture professionals, academicians, scientists, researchers, managers and policy makers to exchange their views and ideas on the theme for the benefit of all the takers.
Feature of 2nd Hortiindia 2013
The unique feature of this event was to provide a perfect blend of technology and practical training in hi-tech horticulture. It was a great opportunity for the horticulturists and progressive growers to have a practical hands-on training of different scientific practices. It also provides a platform to the growers and entrepreneurs to interact with eminent horticulturists of the country and from abroad. The expected dignitaries to grace this mega event were; Mrs. Deepa Dasmunshi Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Urban Development and Mr Tariq Anwar, Hon’ble Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries, Senior Bureaucrats from different Ministries & Departments GOI & States, Vice Chancellors and Director Horticulture from different states and union territories.
The emphasis was on the technology demonstration and Hands on Training based on:
- Hi-tech nursery production of different crops under protected conditions.
- Production techniques of Tomato, Cucumber and Capsicum under protected conditions.
- Production Techniques of Lilium under protected conditions.
- Drip irrigation and fertigation technique.
- Canopy management in fruit crops.
- Rejuvenation of old and senile orchards.
- Potable system of Vermicomposting.
- Mulching.
- Greenhouse construction and installation.
Different agri input companies including Saveer Biotech Limited, Jain Irrigation, and other leading companies were exhibited their products. Farmers were able to have first hand information about the different agri inputs available in market with their source.
