Out of the State Exposure Visits

Institute of Horticulture Technology addresses various gaps and constraints by way of organizing exposure visits for the farmers and horticulture professionals in various areas of horticulture, outside their states. Such programmes help in converging and synergizing multiple on-going and planned programmes for horticulture development.

The role of field days and exposure visits is to introduce growers and agricultural professionals to new technologies and techniques could be practically used and applied in different places in respective states. This forms the integral part of acquiring knowledge as ‘Seeing is Believing’. It provides opportunity to the participants of different regions to interact and learn from each other. These visits help to promote modern horticultural technology, organic horticulture, precision farming, micro-irrigation, conservation and income generating activities such as protected cultivation of vegetables and cut flowers, exotic fruits, mushroom production, innovative techniques in conventional horticulture.

India is blessed with diverse agro climatic conditions, different states have progressed well in the production of varied horticultural crops and farmers need to be exposed to the technologies, considering the productivity potential and availability of vast opportunities. A well thought out plan of action is formulated by the experts of IHT for providing exposure visits to the farmers and horticulture professionals out of their states to understand these modern technologies. Such type of plan necessarily needs the focused attention that is what IHT does, an expert of the institute is constantly with the trainees in various places so that the visiting trainees understand the technologies showcased by progressive farmers/ institutions of the visiting states. The exposure visits are the form of trainings to the farmers for the production of different horticultural crops with modern proved technologies, their post-harvest management, the value addition and the marketing. The exposure visits shape the farmers with modern proved technologies, their post-harvest management, the value addition & marketing.

District /Block Level Trainings

Institute of Horticulture Technology has been conducting hands on trainings both in main campus, Greater Noida, NCR Delhi and on site for farmers and extension officials in different districts and blocks of different States on India. On site trainings with duration of 1-2 days are most useful as all the farmers are not able to make it to the main campus of the institute as they are usually reluctant to leave their places even for short durations of 5-7 days, to acquaint them with innovative technologies in horticulture the Institute conducts “HANDS ON TRAININGS” on specially developed training modules for the innovative technologies for farmers and extension officials at block and district level of different states. So that they are abreast with innovative technologies followed in production of horticulture crop.

The experts from IHT demonstrate different technologies which can be adopted by the farmers at their places. The farmers are provided interactive lectures and hands on trainings during the onsite trainings. The trainings at district/block level is usually tailored as per the need and requirement in the district/block. So there are different modules for the trainings at district/block level, however for illustration one of the Training Model module is given as:

International Study Tours/Trainings

Institute of Horticulture Technology, Greater Noida, NCR Delhi ever since established in 2009, has been conducting hands on trainings for farmers, extension officials and entrepreneurs from different states of India and abroad. Till date the Institute has provided capacity building trainings to more than 58,000 trainees from different states of India and abroad –mainly Tunisia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Sudan, Tajikistan, Palestine, Vietnam, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Bahrain, and etc.

The Institute is recognized by Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation, Govt. of India for Hi Tech Trainings in Horticulture.

The Institute has started International Exposure Programmes for desirous persons interested in innovative technologies in Horticulture. The programmes are organized for the countries like Netherlands, Israel, Spain, Germany, Thailand as per the requirement of the trainees. The institute envisages for a need for different kind of exposure visits than what was being offered usually by the tour operators (e.g., Just travel and logistics). Our goal—to organize a study tour that includes all the following elements:

The tour which are presently offered by different agencies does not include pre and post tour support with respect of technological exposure which the trainees will be exposed to during the study tour and the technical back up once they return back and try to implement some of the technologies at their place in India.

For planning the International programmes, IHT has got some of its experts to undergo such study tour programmes in order to plan such tour more purposefully for other desirous persons from our country.

Although there are many categories of trainings, yet proper planning and pre-training/orientation have its own values. Pre-training is the process of enhancing the skills, capabilities and knowledge of trainees before going outside of the country. This will be of great help in their upcoming training/tours as they can easily understand the technology displayed during the visit. This will enhance their confidence and thereby the overall performance at their place after coming back.

Target Groups: Training Courses are designed to suit the needs of Agri-horticulture staff, entrepreneurs and technicians of horticulture enterprises, growers, teachers and students of agricultural universities.
