Collaborative Research for Crop Development & Improvement

IHT has been undertaking collaborative/partnership projects with Agricultural Universities and projects with pesticide, seed and agri. input companies. The projects can be for validation and/or evaluation trails. Contact us for the joint projects.

IHT has its own Technology Centre which hosts array of greenhouses from basis to highly automated ones, computerized multichannel fertigation systems, sensor weather station, fully operational micro irrigation system, open field for various crops. The Institute’s North East Regional Centre at Mandira, Kamrup, Assam, spread over 150 acres carried on R&D projects, technology demonstration and capacity building trainings in Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. The prominent projects dealt with macro propagation of Malbhog Banana and field plantation in farmers’ fields under Biotech Kisan Project, Strawberry Cultivation in different districts of Meghalaya, Orchid Cultivation under protected conditions in Assam and Meghalaya; Production of quality planting material for Citronella, Patchouli and Sugandmantri and field plantation in farmers’ fields in different districts of Assam with buy back facility for the aromatic oils produced by the farmers; Technological interventions for Cultivation of Turmeric with GAP.

Standardization of technology for production of quality planting material through micro and macro propagation techniques continue to remain the focal point of applied research at the Institute. In one of the project on “Demonstration of Sustainable Technologies for Protected and Open Cultivation of Important Vegetable Crops in Farmers Field and IBSD Main Hub Mizoram”, the project achieved its goal of developing bio resource entrepreneurship in cucumber production in polyhouses and has become a replicable project for other farmers of the state. Besides demonstrating production technology of cucumber and tomato in polyhouses established in the farmers’ field, the result of technological interventions with micro irrigation and soil moisture conservation and weed management for local popular crops like Birds Eye Chilli, Sticky Pumpkin and French Beans was also demonstrated to farmers in their fields.
