School of Speed Breeding (SoSB),
Institute of Horticulture Technology (IHT)
“Time is extremely valuable, especially in farming where seasons, growth cycles, and harvests are time-bound”
At the Institute of Horticulture Technology (IHT), we believe that the future of farming depends on timely innovation. In response to climate challenges and increasing global food demand, IHT has established the School of Speed Breeding (SoSB) to help plant breeders’ develop improved, resilient crop varieties, faster than ever before.
Imagine growing four to six generations of a crop in one year instead of just one or two.
Speed Breeding makes this possible by creating controlled environments where crops grow faster, flower sooner, and produce seeds quicker, and all without compromising on plant health or genetic integrity.
It’s not magic, it’s science. The idea is simple: accelerate the “seed to seed” cycle. And it’s powered by:
- Extended photoperiods using Spectral-specific PAR lights
- Carefully monitored temperature, humidity and nutrition conditions
“Where time matters, speed leads the way”- India is home to one of the most diverse agricultural ecosystems in the world. But to stay ahead of pests, diseases, and climate variability, our farmers need faster access to better-performing varieties.
It’s no longer a future idea. It’s happening now, and School of Speed breeding is at the forefront of this change.
